It has more internal storage (256GB vs. 64GB). But the iPhone 12 brings better performance (+24%), a glass back, and more OS updates (4 additional years).

What else do they have to offer?

The Find X2 Pro also features a higher refresh rate, Always-On, larger (+0.6") display, better outdoor brightness, a telephoto lens (+116 mm), faster-charging speeds (65w vs. 20w), more RAM (12GB vs. 4GB), and Bluetooth 5.1. But the iPhone 12 also features a cleaner user interface, a lightweight body (53 g./1.87 oz less), and wireless charging.

How much more will those additional features cost me?

Is the Find X2 Pro still worth buying in 2021?

The Oppo Find X2 Pro isn't the most cutting-edge device in 2021, but it's still a powerful phone. In October of 2020, Apple launched its iPhone 12. The Find X2 Pro, however, has seen the light of day in March of 2020.

Which One Has The Best Performance?

On the multicore portion of Geekbench 5 (IOS)(Android), which measures overall performance, the iPhone 12 was, on average, 24% quicker while finishing its tests. It's something to consider, but it shouldn't be a deal-breaker. You should be aware that apps on iOs usually run smoother because Google does have a hard time optimizing Android.

The iPhone 12 also has a performance above the average if you consider related priced phones. While they got a score of about 2988, it has 4067. That puts it 36% above them.

We can classify both of them as high-end.

Regarding their chipset, while the Apple iPhone 12 comes with the Apple A14 SoC, the Oppo Find X2 Pro has the Snapdragon 865 SoC.

About the graphics: while the first one brings a proprietary Apple GPU, the other has an Adreno 650.

At least you'll get the Android 10 and ColorOS 7 on the Find X2 Pro, and the iPhone 12 runs on iOS 14.1.

Which Phone Has The Best Display?

The Find X2 Pro has the best screen, and it should be noticeable.

The Find X2 Pro offers a sharp, 6.7-inch AMOLED display considerably larger than the 6.1-inch AMOLED panel on the iPhone 12. You'll likely have set your preferences already on the display type and size. Me, I'd go for an AMOLED screen, but a decent LCD can be just as good.

If you prefer a smartphone with a small display, don't waste your time searching for other devices, and go for the iPhone 12. At least it's short when compared to the average phone for its price range.

If you're looking for the most high-resolution display, the Find X2 Pro is a winner here. If you fancy edge-to-edge displays, there's one more reason to consider the Find X2 Pro.

Screens seem to get bigger each year, so you need to know about their glass protection. The Find X2 Pro display is protected with a Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The iPhone 12 with a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

If you're looking for the brightest display, the Find X2 Pro can do 871 nits, while the iPhone 12 can only do 232 nits below that.

Which Phone Has The Best Cameras?

Be aware that the iPhone 12's picture quality is, on average, 23 points above other cameras with comparable prices. But you can pick either one.

Let's delve into their cameras. The Find X2 Pro's primary camera has a whopping 48 Megapixels sensor, with an aperture of f/1.7, a 25mm wide-angle lens, two flash LEDs, HDR abilities, and Optical Image Stabilization. Videos on its shooter have a maximum resolution of 2160p.

It also has two additional cameras, one 13 Megapixels camera with an aperture of f/3.0 and an astounding 129mm telephoto lens. And another with 48 Megapixels (f/2.2) with a 17mm ultra-wide-angle lens.

Do you really need a 48 Megapixels camera? Did you know you can zoom in and crop those photos to simulate optical zoom? That's how you can get the same results as you'd get on a 12 Megapixels 2x optical zoom camera.

Want to know about its selfie capabilities? It has a generous 32 MP (f/2.4) shooter and a 1/2.8" sensor.

DXOMARK reviewed this camera and gave it 129 points. Then, if you consider the telephoto and wide-angle lenses, the final score goes up to 144 points. If you want to know more about it, click here.

To put things in perspective: you'd probably like to know that all of its rivals can record videos in 4K or more, have an ultra-wide-angle lens, and feature Optical Image Stabilization, and 94% feature a telephoto lens. On the other hand, none of them feature a macro lens.

The Apple iPhone 12, in its turn, features a 12 Megapixels camera with an f/1.6 aperture and a 26mm, wide-angle lens. Then it has four flash LEDs, HDR capabilities, and Optical Image Stabilization. It records videos at up to 2160p. It also has a secondary 12 Megapixels camera with an aperture of f/2.4 plus a 13mm ultra-wide-angle lens.

The selfie camera has 12 MP, an f/2.2 aperture, and a 23 mm wide-angle lens.

The guys over at the DXOMARK labs scored this camera with 132 points. By considering its wide-angle lens, we'll get to the final score of 139 points. If you want to know more about it, check it here.

Furthermore, just like the other device, all of its rivals can record videos in 4 or 8K, have an ultra-wide-angle lens, and feature Optical Image Stabilization. That said, only 6% of them feature a macro lens.

We can classify these two more as high-end.

Who has the best frame?

If you're still undecided about them, the iPhone 12 is a better choice based on its weight.

The Find X2 Pro comes at 165x74 mm (6.50x2.92 inches). The iPhone 12 came out 0.75 inches (19 mm) smaller and 0.12 inches (3 mm) narrower.

The former has about 8 mm (0.32 inches) of thickness, while the latter has 7 mm (0.28 inches).

Do you want a front and back glass body? Then the iPhone 12 is the one. The Find X2 Pro is 53 g. (1.87 oz) heavier than the other, weighing about 164 g. (5.78 oz). But because screen size also matters, I've created an adapted score for a "weight to display size" ratio. The Find X2 Pro got 3.0, which implies it's kind of weighty for a 6.7 inches display. In the meantime, the iPhone 12 has 6.9, which is pretty nice.

You can purchase the Oppo Find X2 Pro in Black, Gray, Orange, Green, and Lamborghini Edition. And you can pick the Apple iPhone 12 in Black, Red, White, Green, and Blue.

If you like to keep your phones small, consider getting the Apple iPhone 12. If not, then you should choose the other one.

Do you value a fingerprint scanner? The Find X2 Pro included one under the display. Unfortunately, the iPhone 12 doesn't have any.

Although a pin isn't the only login option in the iPhone 12. Usually, logging in with a fingerprint scanner is faster, but at least you'll get a Face ID scanner.

The Find X2 Pro truly is water-resistant. It can be submerged 1 to 3 meters deep, just like the iPhone 12. Remember that it shouldn't be for over half an hour, and it's freshwater in standby mode only.

Which has the best battery?

The Find X2 Pro does have a battery capacity of 4260 mAh versus the 2815 mAh of the iPhone 12. And as reported by GSMArena, the winner is the Find X2 Pro.

This is how the Find X2 Pro performs after a full charge:

  • From 1 hour of talking, 1 hour of web browsing, and 1 hour of video playback, you'll still have 82% left.
  • By talking for 1 hour, browsing the web for 3 hours, and playing videos for 1 hour, you'll still have 65% left for the rest of the day.
  • After 1 hour of talking, 1 hour of web browsing, and 3 hours of video playback, the phone will have 70% left for the rest of the day.

And this is what you'll get out of the iPhone 12:

  • For 1 hour of talking, 1 hour of web browsing, and 1 hour of video playback, you should have 79% of the battery left for the rest of the day.
  • If you do 1 hour of talking, 3 hours of web browsing, and 1 hour of video playback, you'll probably have 64% left for the rest of the day.
  • From 1 hour of talking, 1 hour of web browsing, and 3 hours of video playback, this is where your battery will be: 64%.

If one of these will end up being the one, you'll have quick charging on your next phone: 65w for the Find X2 Pro and 20w for the iPhone 12.

The iPhone 12 also supports wireless charging at 15w. On the new iPhones, it's also magnetic. That's great, but it's yet another proprietary solution.

What about having reverse wireless charging on your next phone? If you want it, both the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus and the OnePlus 8 Pro feature it.

Quick charging is reasonably speedy with the Find X2 Pro's charger. That's rare because phones from this budget usually sit at nearly 40w.

Which has more storage?

The Find X2 Pro. Clearly.

The Find X2 Pro features 256GB of internal storage and 12GB of RAM. Unfortunately, Oppo didn't include a MicroSD slot, but you wouldn't need that anyway, right?

In its turn, the iPhone 12 has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of integrated storage. There's also no extra storage here. You may need a good data plan and some cloud storage. If you're wondering, you can effortlessly get more RAM and more storage from most of its opponents. 9Gb of RAM and 146Gb of storage: that's the average, not the best you can find.

Both phones have more than enough storage and RAM for the average consumer. However, if you love to have or record tons of videos, 64 GB will be a problem sooner than later.

Which is the most connectivity-friendly?

The Find X2 Pro, unless you don't care about Bluetooth 5.1.

Each one has its Bluetooth version: The Find X2 Pro has 5.1, and the iPhone 12 has 5.0. Both phones have NFC.

There isn't much to say about the 3.5mm headphone jack, except that it simply isn't here. You may go for an adapter as a last resort, but it really isn't the same. You can also check other devices if you don't mind searching for them. You'd have to pick a smartphone like the Sony Xperia 1 II.

Which is more affordable?

The Apple iPhone 12 may not be the best bang for your buck. But that depends on the deals that you can find. It may not be that inexpensive. It is 5% more expensive compared to its rivals. They're in the neighborhood of $761. On the other hand, you'll likely find the Find X2 Pro at a higher price range, but I believe that it shouldn't come as a surprise at all.

But there are a few things that I don't consider, like price, brand value, size, resell value, OS (iOS or Android), user experience, updates, RAM (included on performance), battery to phone size, display size to weight, network (LTE/5G), and biometrics.

Progress bars explained

#1: A big red progress bar means that this value is way below the average. In this case, it's 28.85MP, and the iPhone XR is 16.85MP below the average.

#2: In this example, the XR is just 0.36mm below the average, that's why the red bar is almost unnoticeable.

#3: On the other hand, the SE 2 is 1.8mm above (hence, the green bar) the 26.2mm of average.

#4: Performance-wise, the SE 2 is well above the average (of 2512) for its price range. That's the reason the green bar is that long.

"Display size to phone weight" ratio explained

This indeed is a "display size to phone weight" ratio, but because every phone ended up somewhere between 0.0272 and 0.0421, I've amplified (adapted) those values so they would fit in a 0-10 scale. As of now, the best smartphone is the Samsung Galaxy A40, with 140g. (4.94 oz) for a 5.9 inch display. It got a score of 9.92. While the worse device is the iPhone 8 Plus, which weighs 202 g. (7.13 oz) and has a 5.5-inch display. It ended up with a score of 0.75.

Please, be aware that this score is subject to change if and when a new smartphone comes along that ends up being outside of this scale.

"Battery to device size" ratio explained

This score should give you an idea about the energy footprint of the devices you're considering. It reflects not only the hardware and the energy that it requires but also the amount of energy that the battery can deliver.

The major spenders on any device should be the display and the SoC. But everything from a notification led to its modems need to be optimized, or else, the OEM should simply include a bigger battery as a compensation. Unfortunately, it isn't always possible due to size limitations. But in the end, if a particular OEM can do a good job and give you excellent battery life on a small device, so should everyone else. That's why I've added a "battery to device size" ratio. But since the real scale went from 119 (for the Galaxy S10e, Snapdragon variant) and up to 164 (for the iPhone 7 Plus), I've decided to convert them so they would fit in a 0-10 scale, being 0 the worst device, (the iPhone 7 Plus) and 10 the one every OEM should look up to.

As an example, Apple did an excellent job on the iPhone 7. It has a score of 8. Despite having a small capacity, the hardware is well optimized, and it still gives you decent battery life considering its size. The iPhone 7 Plus, on the other hand, with those bezels shrinking its display size, clearly could've been the #1 in our top 10 list of best battery devices if Apple simply filled all that empty space with a bigger battery.

As a side note: I haven't included the dept of the devices in this formula because even if a device ended up being 1mm/0.03 inches thicker, it wouldn't matter that much to those who really value battery life.

Battery results

The battery score is based on Gsmarena's endurance rating and is taken with a screen brightness of 200 nits and a refresh rate of 60hz.

Assumptions: The display is off during a call, there's a web page refresh every 10 seconds, and the video playback is in Airplane mode.

Formula deviation

Since the guys at DxoMark don't review every camera out there, I've come up with a formula based on the ones that they do rate, so I could get an equivalent score for the ones they don't review. After testing it against these cameras, I got the deviation between that and their DxO score.

As you can see, most cameras sit between 1 and -1, while a few of them go up to 2 or -2. That means it's reasonable to assume other similar cameras that they don't review to, in the worst-case scenario, be anywhere from -2 to 2 points from the score that the formula gets.

For example: Given that the Pixel 4 got 117 points and that the Pixel 4 XL share the same year and camera specs, it's reasonable to expect a score of 117 too. But in reality, if they do review that camera, it may end up anywhere between 115 and 119.

Be aware that at DxO, they give a score based on their opinion, not based on any formula. That's why I think there's an odd difference of 6 points between the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X. In theory, they should have the same camera.

I'm guessing that the Mi 9T Pro got a deviation of 7 points because they tested its Chinese variant (the K20 Pro).

Update: They just changed their protocol to include preview image evaluation and trustability. I'm keeping the old table (for now) for reference purposes, and I'll be adding a new one as soon as they review at least a couple of new mclass-range cameras.

You can expect the same (or a bit bigger) deviation for high-end cameras, but anything with a score below 100-110 should be taken with a grain of salt.

This is valclass for all cameras tested with the previous protocol. For those that they dclassn't test, the deviation may be up to twice as much.

Nits

With regards to AMOLED screens, sometimes OEMs claim higher maximum brightness. That's because an AMOLED screen can push its brightness progressively higher as its white area gets smaller.

These values are from the lab tests made by GSMArena, and their white test pattern takes up 75% of the physical size of the screen.
